Philippines has a lot to offer in terms of island hopping. Two of the islands that you can possibly hop in and enjoy are Cebu and Negros (Occidental – west side). What I did was from Cebu City (main city of former) going to Bacolod City (main city of the latter) and vice versa. This route has various sceneries  and activities that you will definitely take considerable pleasure in.

The ROUTE

route from Cebu City to Bacolod City via Toledo and San Carlos

  • From Cebu City (South Bus Terminal) via Toledo to Toledo Port
  1. Go to Cebu South Bus Terminal
  2. Ride the bus with a signage to Toledo
  3. Alight to Toledo town.
  4. Ride a tricycle to Toledo Port.

Toledo port
  • From Toledo Port to San Carlos Port then San Carlos Bus Terminal
  1. In Toledo Port, check the availability and the time of the marine public transport. There are two means: BARGE/ship/ferry and FASTCRAFT/Fastcat/fast jet.
  2. Pay TERMINAL FEE.
  3. Ride the vessel.
  4. Alight to San Carlos Port.
  5. Walk outside the port.
  6. Ride a tricycle to San Carlos Bus Terminal.

San Carlos Bus Terminal
  • From San Carlos Bus Terminal to Bacolod City via Don Salvador.
  1. Ride a CERES bus with a signage Bacolod via Don Salvador.
  2. Alight at South Bus Terminal in Bacolod.

Bacolod City Ceres Bus Terminal Toledo- San Carlos route

Approximate TRAVEL TIME: 6-7 hours

TWO WAYS in traveling to the islands.

1. Go to Cebu North Bus Terminal for CERES BUS Liner package from CEBU TO BACOLOD.

The convenient and longer way is to go to Cebu Bus North Terminal and ride the CERES BUS.

  • CERES BUS LINERS  is a convenient and comfortable vehicle that has already new buses with toilets and reclining seats for long travels such as this. They also offer a hassle-free ride by including on the fare the ship fee so you do not need to alight and transfer in different vehicles. (though in case of boarding the ship, you need to use their seats to enjoy the view and wind breeze instead of being suffocated inside the bus.) P505 per head excluding the port terminal fee.
  • By using this, you will board a barge as the bus will be transported. But it will take 2 hours to get to the island.

2. Go to Cebu South Bus Terminal and ride on the ordinary bus in going to Toledo

You have the choice to transfer and use different vehicles aside from CERES Bus. The advantages of this is that you have

  • the freedom to select the fees,
  • type of bus/ship and
  • the schedule/time.
From Cebu South Bus Terminal, there were no CERES buses at around 4am. In order for us to get to Toledo Port early to catch the first ship, we decided to use the ordinary bus which was only P60 per head.
Then, you can use FAST CRAFT marine vessel which takes only 1 hour to travel. It is only P150 – regular adult fee.

This is also similar in going from Bacolod City to Cebu City.

  1. Go to Bacolod South Bus Terminal located in Libertad.
  2. Ride a CERES Bus with a signage Cebu via Don Salvador.
  3. Then, pay terminal fee at San Carlos Port for P20/head.
  4. Alight either in Cebu South Bus Terminal or Cebu North Bus Terminal.

Tips:

  1. Check the schedule of the bus and ferry of each terminal/port or company. – This can help you manage your time and save money to avoid waiting and/or renting a hotel/buying food just for the next trip.
  2. Best time from Cebu City is the early morning at 4am. Why?Sunrise watching while traveling. In Don Salvador, you can feel the cool breeze of the mountains. It is like Baguio of the Philippines.
  3. From Bacolod, catch the last trip of the bus which is 2:30pm. So you can a bit travel in the city before coming home.

  1. hi
i am from Singapore. i am trying to do a solo trip in late Aug 2017 to Bacolod Carmelite Home to visit the orphanage & children there. Never been to Bacolod or Toledo or Santo BUT i have been to Cebu.

Your trip details are well documented and will be very helpful for me.

May I asked for the number of hours between EACH segment of your forward trip, and again for the return trip (which i noted that you took a different service)? It would nice if you email me at jackkoh21@gmail. com
    1000 thanks in advance. Jack

  2. Thank you so much for posting this! I was really worried on how to get there because I'm planning to go on a trip there alone. I didn't know the costs and the arrival time. This is really helpful

  3. Hi Sasha! Thanks for reading and leaving a comment!

Well, I had not thought about that when I was planning my trip to Bacolod. And also, I had not asked that as we were in a hurry catching up the last bus. That time, there were little information online about the buses and ships schedules heading from Cebu to Bacolod. I also asked a frequent traveller and he just suggested me to just go to the terminals early. So, that was why mey and my travel companion were a bit worried about the bus and ship schedules. That is why I shared all the necessary infos online.

As I have checked on Google, I haven't seen their own website. I only saw their Facebook page. Try to search it up and just hit up the contact number listed on their page.

I honestly think that I am used to having an old-fashioned way of getting on a bus, going to the terminals/bus stops or making 'para' or stop the bus along the road. There should be a new trend of this by getting tickets online to plot our schedule. hehe!

    Thanks! I hope this helps!

  4. Hi Jkoh! How was your trip in Bacolod after our exchange of emails? I hope you had a wonderful trip and this info has helped you. Thanks again for reading and leaving a comment!

  5. HI good day! i would like to ask if what time was your appointment in DFA for renewal? because me and my friends have an appointment also there in Bacolod this November. thank you so much God bless 🙂

  6. Hello! Thanks for reading and commenting! You can go to San Carlos and ride a lite ferry. Also, ordinary bus of Ceres is cheaper than aircon one. Maybe there is another bus company but I am not sure the terminal.
