Travelling to Lucena City in Quezon from Alabang

This blog post is about Alabang to Lucena bus travel, the tourist spots, hotel to stay, places to eat, and additional tips.

Lucena City is in Quezon province, Southern Luzon of the Philippines.
The city is common to licensure examinees as Professional Regulation and Commission Office and assigned schools/universities are located in it. Others visit the place to do their tradition ‘Bisita Iglesia’ to one of the churches – St. Ferdinand Cathedral.

What can you see in Lucena City?

When I went to Lucena City, I noticed that there are few places to see. I asked some locals like the hotel staff, teachers and drivers, they said that only the places below are the tourist spots or places that people intentionally go to.

St. Ferdinand Cathedral

St. Ferdinand Cathedral Lucena

Lucena Perez Park/ Provincial Capitol

Lucena Provincial Capitol – which is under renovation

Sacred Heart College

Where to stay?

Pricey Hotels

Star Garden Tower Hotel

This is where I stayed for a night during my examination.
Price per night is as low as 1,958 with tax for single-sized bed while 2,288 for queen-sized bed.
I absolutely enjoy the breakfast and the proximity of the place to shops and especially the school that I had taken exam- Sacred Heart College. The staff are kind and respond to my calls and texts when I was reserving and asking for directions in going there.
The price for me is a bit too much for their lack of amenities/facilities.
Credit card is not available.
I highly recommend to reserve a room in advance by contacting these details:

Queen Margarette Hotel

Another place to stay which is convenient and located in the heart of the city is Queen Margarette Hotel. There is also another location which is along the Lucena Highway.

Granja St, Lucena, 4301 Quezon
For contact details of the price and for reservation, check

Affordable Hotels

In these two hotels, the contact details that I researched are not accurate. Maybe that is the reason why the examinees that I were with when I rode the jeepney with them, they went personally to check the hotels without reserving.

Hotel Pol Ocampo

This is near Meralco. The jeepney driver dropped off some licensure examinees in the stop. He said that it is one of the cheapest hotels. The examinees that I saw were group of young ladies and they were going to check out first the hotel and check the next one which was also recommended by the driver.
Behind Meralco which is along Quezon Avenue.

Hillside Hotel

The jeepney driver recommended this as one of the cheapest stay inns. For licensure examinees, having a place to stay in with an affordable price and near the testing area is a must.
It is along Quezon Avenue before Meralco if going to Bayan (town proper)
The contact details I saw on the Internet are not accurate. There is another Hillside hotel which is far from Bayan.

Additional tips:

That time, there were a lot of examinees from different places who were looking for a place to stay. Some of the residents there were shouting outside the examination place- Sacred Heart College of a place to rent. I suggest that you need to be vigilant in these desperate times. Better see the examination room assignment online 3 weeks ahead so you can also go to the place to canvass and reserve a hotel.

Places to eat

Local foods
You can order these local foods:
    • Lucban Longganisa
    • Chami
Buddy’s Restaurant
located at the corner of  Quezon Ave. and Gov.  Leon Guinto Street in Bayan (town proper)
  • Inihaw na Saging na Saba (Grilled Saba Banana)
sellers Along Quezon Avenue near St. Ferdinand Cathedral
  • Grilled Meat (Barbecue, Sisig, Sisig Lechon, Bangus, Isaw, etc.)
in front of Star Garden Tower Hotel (open at night time only)
These are the information that I have got and experienced. I hope this post has helped you a lot! To all the licensure examinees, I hope you can pass the exam and good luck!
